Lowes Motor Speedway
NASCAR fans delight at the home of two Busch events and a couple of the Nextel series and throw in the ever incredible Craftsman Truck extravaganza. All incredible fun under the glow at an incredible venue right in Charlotte North Carolina.
The reason the glow of the lights is so important is because it is at this facility that car racing at night under lights first began. You would think it would have dated back to Edison and the first light bulb but not so much – the lights came in 1991 as a lure to keep RJR’s Winston Cup at the track. For the younger kids out there racing under the lights is taken for granted but not so before – before it was all in the day. Now use that little piece of trivia next time you are huddled under a blanket in the stands.
Now locals know the lowes motor speedway as the Charlotte Motor Speedway after all names change over time. But with Lowes incredible commitment to racing it looks like the Lowes name may stick for some time. It seems right too given that it took so much incredible heavy construction to build the place.
There was so much rock it would have kept Fred Flintstone busy for his entire career. There was a lot of dynamite used in its construction and rightfully so as you can hear the blasting scream of the cars flying buy all night long. One thing that’s fun for the locals – when they secretly go to the tracks and let some of the racers of the future compete.
Lowes is wonderful in that they let their pristine track with a capacity of over 167,000 be used for all types of racing – from go carts through motocross Lowes Motor Speedway hosts it all.
When you are in Charlotte, consider swinging by – maybe you will be able to sign up for one of the adult race car fantasy camps and race a real NASCAR car – ripping around the track with only your skill keeping you on track.
Have fun and check out the Lowes Motor Speedway – a first class venue for first class events.
